Meet Our Staff
Father Roger G. Gustafson - Pastor
I grew up in a suburban neighborhood of Atlanta and first learned about Jesus in the Lutheran church where my mom taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. At the age of 24, I had a spiritual awakening and began to seek God on my own. I found my way to the Catholic Church in 1989. Although I felt drawn to the priesthood, I avoided God’s call for almost twenty years, doing many other things, including working as a healthcare administrator and earning a Ph.D. in Religion and Social Ethics from the University of Southern California and a law degree from the University of Chicago. I practiced law for seven years and then began once again to discern a call to the priesthood in 2006. I studied at Saint Patrick’s Seminary and was ordained on June 7, 2014. My first parish out of the seminary was St. Hilary Church, and it feels like home. In 2016, I was assigned to be the Pastor of St. Brendan Church & School in San Francisco. I am overjoyed to be home with all of you at St. Hilary Church once again!
