Dear Seventh Grade Religious Education Program Families,
We have decided to make a change in our Confirmation Program which we think you'll find to be very positive. In the past, preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation was separate from our regular weekly Religious Education classes for 7th and 8th grade students. In addition to the Wednesday Religious Education classes, students were required to attend Confirmation preparation sessions on Sunday evenings beginning in March and going through until November.
Going forward, the precepts of Confirmation will be integrated into the regular 7th and 8th grade Religion Education curriculum (just as we do for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in the 2nd grade). Our 7th grade Religious Education Program students will be receiving instruction to prepare for Confirmation as part of their weekly Religious Education classes and will not need to attend Sunday evening sessions. Retreats, service opportunities and any special Masses will be planned so that Saint Hilary Religious Education Program students seeking to be Confirmed will come together with their Saint Hilary School peers who are also preparing for Confirmation.
Please note that 8th grade students who are to receive the sacrament of Confirmation on November 6, 2011, will continue with their previously-scheduled Sunday evening sessions. This change in the Confirmation program only affects students seeking to be Confirmed in 2012.
I am confident that this change will be beneficial to students preparing for Confirmation as well as to their families. With this new program, we hope to provide a more meaningful experience for our young people preparing to receive this important sacrament.
May the good Lord bless you and yours!
